Meet the Head Instructor

​Chavez Grant is a seasoned tactical professional, SWAT Team Leader, and former Division I collegiate athlete with over a decade of law enforcement and instructional experience. Built on a foundation of athletic leadership, operational execution, and proven instructional methodologies, Chavez delivers sound tactics, firearms proficiency, and effective threat response training designed for real-world application.

 

Background & Law Enforcement Experience

 

Athlete & Leader

A Miami native, Chavez developed his leadership and discipline early as a top-tier student-athlete at Booker T. Washington High School, graduating ranked #6 in his class with an honors GPA, earning All-Dade Scholar-Athlete and All-Dade Football honors, and captaining both the football and basketball teams.

 

He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Miami, where he played defensive back from 2006 to 2010. Respected by teammates and coaches alike for his work ethic and communication, Chavez was elected a two-year Team Captain for the Hurricanes while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.

 

Tactical & Law Enforcement Operations

In 2014, Chavez transitioned his drive into public service, joining the Plantation Police Department and earning the Broward Police Academy Physical Fitness Award upon graduation in 2015. Over a decade of service, his experience spans:

• SWAT Team Leadership: Active SWAT team member since 2018, serving as SWAT Team Leader since 2023.

• Specialized Task Force Operations: Served 2 years on the Broward Sheriff’s Office Tactical Burglary Apprehension Team, executing high-risk tactical operations.

• Patrol & Field Training: 9 years on road patrol and 5 years as a Field Training Officer (FTO), mentoring, evaluating and developing incoming officers.

• Public Information Officer: Serving as an official department spokesperson since 2022.

 

Instructional Expertise & Certifications

Since 2021, Chavez has served as an adjunct instructor at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety (Police Academy), training the next generation of law enforcement professionals. He holds official instructor certifications across core tactical disciplines:

• Handgun 

• Patrol Rifle

• Pistol Mounted Optics (PMO)

• Low Light Pistol Tactics

• Vehicle Close Quarters Battle (VCQB)

• Tactical Medic (TCCC)

 

Through Charger Defense, Chavez brings together his background as a competitive athlete, law enforcement officer, SWAT leader, instructor, and lifelong student of performance to provide quality training designed to help each student become a safe, more capable and confident shooter.
